Having almost a decade of feature animation and visual effects production experience, Michael Zhang is a highly motivated award winning Senior Lighting Artist currently residing in Vancouver, Canada. He has worked at studios such as Sony Pictures Imageworks, Cinesite, and MPC, on projects such as Spiderman: Across the Spiderverse (and Into the Spiderverse), Spiderman: No Way Home, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, Over the Moon, Jumanji: The Next Level, Hotel Transylvania, and Smallfoot. During his time at SPI, he has done shot lighting and key lighting work, look development, and final compositing for feature animation and pre-compositing for vfx movies. He also won an Applause Award for outstanding performance for his work done on Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 3. He also has personal work published in magazines such as 3D World, 3D Artist, and won awards for this student work for CG Student Awards, being the first Bootcamp Placement recipient. Michael is excited to continue to explore and create new and beautiful imagery in the world of CG.
